Realization of information communication environment with high security and high reliability

[1] Optical biometric recognition systems

Information security, especially the recognition system with high speed and high accuracy, is very important in high information-oriented society. Individual recognition using the biological information, such as fingerprint, vein pattern inside a fingertip, iris, etc., has recently been increasing everywhere, for example, at the ATMs of banks, in the automatic logging into PCs and smartphones, etc. In our laboratory, the recognition system by optical information processing composed of laser light, lens, etc., has been being studied to realize the individual recognition with high speed and high accuracy. The following figure shows the schematic diagram of an optical frequency correlator we proposed.

[2] Encryption and processing of image information

In high information-orientated society, the encryption technology of information is requisite for keeping reliability and security, especially personal information, in various information services. In our laboratory, new methods of encryption and processing of image information with high security and high speed have been being studied. The following right-hand side figure shows an example of the processed image of the fingerprint shown in the following left-hand side figure by use of the discrete fractional Fourier transform (DFRT).

The following figure shows a prototype of the image encryption and processing system using the optical fractional Fourier transform (FRT). The optical FRTs can be realized by adjusting the focal length of a liquid lens and by adjusting the positions of the input and output planes and the lens by use of automatic controlled stages.

In our laboratory, researches on the individual recognition systems with high accuracy using iris, electrocardiogram (ECG) waveform, etc., have also been being studied. In addition,
